Cheerleading Bows

A large majority of cheerleaders are female. Whether they are in grade school or college, female cheerleaders love cheerleading bows. These bows not only help keep their hair out of their eyes while performing cheers and complicated stunts, but also help show their team spirit.

It doesn't matter if you have long or short hair – cheerleading bows can be worn in all types of hair, no matter what the length or style. The cheerleading bows are also a cute way to help the overall look more interesting and have more sparkle.

The cheerleading bows you choose should be in your school colors and match your uniform and pompoms. These bows may be made with many different types of ribbon that may vary in length and width. Some cheerleading bow ribbon will be ribbed while others will be smooth.

You may even want to consider making your own cheerleading bows. There are many examples on the Internet on how to make different bows, but the pinwheel cheerleading bow is a favorite. For this particular cheerleading bow, you will need to purchase thick ribbon that is 11/2 inch to 2 1/4 inch in width. It can be made with a single color ribbon or you can make it with two different colored ribbons. Cut one yard of each of the ribbons and place them on top of each other. Using your fingers to secure the middle of the bow, fold the strips in four loops on each side. Cut a six inch piece of ribbon and intertwine it between each bow then wrapping it on top of itself. Then, secure the spot where your fingers were holding the bow together. Use a hot glue gun to seal the wrapped ribbon and glue the cheerleading bow to a barrette or hair elastic.

There are different ways to wear a cheerleading bow. If you have short hair, you may want to use a small cheerleading bow to hold back your bangs. But, if you have longer hair, you have a couple of different choices. If you want to have your cheerleading bow in the half up half down style, you will need to have your ponytail positioned at the top of your head. This type of style will work best if you place the ponytail directly in line with your ears. Make sure you first secure the ponytail with two hair elastics. Don't just reply on the bow because that may not be secure enough and you don't want your ponytail falling out - especially in the middle of an important routine. Secure the cheerleading bow to the front of the bottom elastic.

If you plan on wearing the ponytail more in the back, you will probably want your cheerleading bow facing the back instead of the front as which is the case with the half up half down style. Still, you will want to use an elastic to secure the ponytail, then attach the cheerleading bow to the top of that.
